In addition to his teaching responsibilities in Bloomington, he maintains a busy concert schedule appearing with orchestras and in recital and chamber music performances throughout the U.S., Asia and Europe. After nine successful years at that post, he left in June, 2006 to assume the endowed Linda and Jack Gill Chair in Music as Professor of Violin at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. Kerr was appointed to the prestigious position of Concertmaster of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Kufchak has made appearances at festivals including Yellow Barn, Sun Valley Music Festival, Olympic Music Festival, and Tanglewood Music Center.Īlexander Kerr’s expressive and charismatic style has made him one of the most accomplished and versatile violinists on the international music scene today. While living in the Bay Area, she held positions with the Fresno Philharmonic as principal viola, the Santa Rosa Symphony, and performed frequently with the San Francisco Symphony. Kufchak also holds an artist diploma from the San Francisco Academy Orchestra, where she studied with San Francisco Symphony violist Matthew Young. Kufchak received her Master’s degree in chamber music performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where she studied with Jodi Levitz.
She completed her undergraduate studies in viola performance at Rice University, where she studied with Ivo-Jan van der Werff at the Shepherd School of Music. Prior to her move to Dallas, she spent one season as a member of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. Meredith Kufchak joined the Dallas Symphony Orchestra as principal viola in 2019. He has frequently served as an adjudicator for the Philadelphia Young Artists Concerto Competition, as well. Michael was a member of the jury for the 2017 HKIVS Shlomo Mintz International Violin Competition and gave master classes at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, China. Additionally, he has served as Assistant to the Music Director at Drexel University. Cali School of Music as well as Adjunct Professor of Music (Violin) at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University. Michael has served as Artist-in-Residence Professor of Violin at Montclair State University’s John J. Michael Ludwig is the Music Director of the Roxborough Orchestra, a position he has held since 2015. He has recorded with the London Symphony Orchestra, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Lithuanian National Symphony, Buffalo Philharmonic, and Virginia Symphony. A highly sought-after soloist, he has performed on four continents, including appearances with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Philadelphia Orchestra, Boston Pops, KBS Symphony in Seoul, Korea, Beijing Symphony, and the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra, collaborating with such conductors as Sir Georg Solti, John Williams, and JoAnn Falletta, among others. Michael Ludwig enjoys a multi-faceted career as a soloist, recording artist, and chamber musician. It is considered to be Mozart’s most successful realization of a cross-over genre between symphony and concerto. The Mozart Sinfonia Concertante, written by Mozart in 1779, is scored in three movements for solo violin, solo viola, two oboes, two horns and strings. We are pleased to partner with Michael Ludwig and Rachael Ludwig of the Philly Pops, who will lead the series that is part of our 25th Anniversary celebration. Because of its intimate nature, chamber music has been described as “the music of friends”. Chamber music is comprised of a small group of instruments-traditionally a group that could fit in a palace chamber or a large room. Classical music will come to South Jersey to soothe and enrich our souls.
